Mission Statement – Lady Shooting Stars Girls Basketball

The Lady Shooting Stars is the premier girls’ AAU organization in the Anne Arundel County area, we are beginning our 10th season. Lady Shooting Stars of Maryland was founded on the principal of giving any and all girls that want to play basketball an opportunity to play. Lady Star’s main objective is the development of player skills and understanding of the game, through practice games and tournaments. It is also a goal of the Lady Stars to win a State or National Championship. Lady Stars Basketball will not recruit players from other organizations and finds this practice unethical and unacceptable.

About Lady Shooting Stars Basketball

Lady Stars AAU Basketball is a girls' basketball organization that field’s teams ranging in age from 10 –17 years old. Lady Stars is located in Anne Arundel County and is open to any girl wishing to tryout and play. The teams are selected once a year with the emphasis placed on the Spring Season, however one of the objectives for the Lady Stars is to participate in competitive basketball year round, we find that this has been a very successful formula for the development of our STARS. We provide opportunities for girls to play in competitive local, regional & national tournaments. Our high school teams compete in well-known exposure tournaments in front of college coaches, most of our Lady Stars eventually become dominant starters on their HS Basketball Teams, to include becoming a sort after college recruit . Girls from all over the Maryland Metro area are able to play and are encouraged to tryout.

AAU Season

Tryouts are held in early March for the Spring/Summer season. Dates and registration forms can be obtained on this web site. www.ladystars.com When teams are selected they are registered with the National AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) Association. Teams are given schedules based on team objectives for the season. The teams generally play 30 – 50 games with the season lasting until mid June. The cost for each team is based upon the number of tournaments the team plays in and how many out of town trips are taken. Each tournament played in costs $300 - $700. The coach determines the cost per player by adding all entry fees and dividing by the number of players on the team. All players pay the same cost. All coaches are volunteers and are not paid. All players will return the issued Uniforms white, Black & Blue. This is done to try and keep cost down. Lady Stars will try to field teams at the following age groups each year 8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16 & 17. Lady Stars will also field a second team at any of the younger age groups when possible.

The Lady Shooting Stars organization have been fortunate to have very qualified and committed coaches, with a host of experience , Nationally and State competition level. Most of the Coaching staff has been coaching girl’s basketball for at least 10 years or more, our coaches are experienced middle, high school & college coaches. They stress fundamentals and focus on player development. Our coaches attend coaching seminars to improve their skills and abilities as well as work together and share knowledge and resolve issues. We are always in need of quality experienced coaches as either a head or assistant. The Maryland Lady Shooting Stars is proud to announce their affiliation with all of their personal donors. Your Donations & Contributions has helped us with uniforms and apparel at a reduced cost as well as providing an opportunity for our teams to compete in exposure tournaments. We are currently working on Scholarship criteria & the building of a basketball facility. Your partnership is an acknowledgement of the commitment made by Lady Stars since the beginning over 11 years ago to offer an opportunity for girls in our community to participate in AAU level basketball competition, both locally and nationally.
